The
2010 Motorkars Memorial Day car show fundraiser was a
success even though mother nature tried to disrupt the
event. The morning thunderstorms raised doubts as
to whether anyone would come out for the show. The show went on as planned, but
there were only a few cars present at the 10am start. The
morning thunderstorm stopped by 11am and the show cars
began to roll in. By early afternoon there were 42
air cooled vehicles registered. There were also a group
of 10 plus scooters and motorcycles on display.
There was an exceptional collection
of Beetles, Busses, Ghia's, Thing's, trucks and vintage Porsche's present. The oldest car was a black 1956
sunroof Beetle owned by Andy Livingston.
The lowest mileage car, with only 4000 miles, was the
1977 "Green Apple" Standard Beetle owned by Steve and
Mona Savko.
Founding COVVC club member Stark
Hughes won the best of show award with his beautiful
1966 Westy Camper. Kevin and Kosby Carrico won the
people's choice award with their 1976 camper.
Kevin later had said, he thinks the neighborhood kids he
brought along, may have stuffed the ballot box, giving
them the win. Greg Gilliam won the best sixties costume
award. And Nathan Brame won the gift certificate
to Dairy Queen by guessing all twelve parts used to
build Otto, the Motorkars company mascot. The kids
were awarded toys for their efforts painting the
Motorkars Recycle Bus.

COVVC club
members, Bill
Lewandowski and Teresa Schleifer provided
wonderful live
music throughout the day. Dan Dial
provided superlative harp backup for Bill's blues. Jason
Davis, regional manager for Sierra Nevada Brewing,
provided Der Bierwagen full of beer for the event.
A special thanks to Jack Rogers for his bubble head
figure and to Randy Smith for his photography.
The fundraiser event owes its success to the support and
efforts of the entire Motorkars staff. Including
Jim, Jeff, Betty, and Jody Young, Amanda Byrnes, Matt
and Angie Markowicz, Shawn Waddell, Dave Force, James
Koziuk, Chris Cornetet, and Shirley Brockmeyer.
Although we did have a 15 minute
downpour in the afternoon, everyone
made the best of it and continued making donations to
the Kids 'n Kamp charity. The fundraiser generated
just shy of the goal of $1,000 for the day.
Thanks to everyone who attended and made it a really fun
show.
