November 1975 ..... November 2005

Motorkars Inc. celebrated it’s 30th anniversary with a banquet dinner held the evening of October 29th, 2005 at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Café just around the corner from Motorkars. The guest list included family, employees and professional associates.

Mike welcomed everyone to the banquet and announced the evening agenda.

Things got started with a blessing of the meal by Father Ted Sill pastor of St. Patrick’s church in London Ohio. Immediately after the blessing everyone  proceeded through the dinner buffet line. The Buckeye Hall of Fame Café pulled out all the stops for Motorkars with a delicious smorgasbord.

After dinner everyone divided into 3 groups and Mike with Betty’s assistance hosted a game show they made up called “Motorkars Jeopardy”. The game show consisted of trivia questions (not answers) about Motorkars, automobiles and 3 Marx Brothers bonus questions. The prizes for the winning team were a custom, one of a kind, faux marble base plastic trophy with a smiley face glued to the top; a colorful selection of beaded Mardi Gras style necklaces for each winning team member and the most coveted prize; the opportunity to be 1st in line for the dessert buffet. The blue team finished in 1st place. The purple team finished a very close 2nd and the green team was 3rd. Examples of some of the questions are as follows.

A sample of the questions were like the following (hover over questions for answers):

What model is VW’s new all wheel drive Golf?

How many cylinders does an Audi 90 Quattro have?

What name did VW use for it’s AWD Quantum?

What name did VW use for it’s semi-automatic trans?

What Porsche model was imported to the US in 1976?

How many VW beetles were imported in 1949?

What was Dr. Porsche’s given first name?

Sample bonus question:

What are the names of four of the five Marx Brothers?

After the game show was over various door prizes were awarded. The winning names were drawn from the Stetson cowboy hat that belonged to company founder the late James R. Young. The winners claimed their gifts of choice. Below are some of the happy winners.

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of all of the individuals present who contributed to the success of Motorkars throughout the past 30 years. The service department technicians (Matt-Jeff-Bill- Marty) were commended for their remarkable achievement of completing over 1 year of service and repair work without a single comeback. Mrs. Young was presented with a gift for her years of service to the company and Mike was given a memorabilia chest for his 30 years commitment and dedication to Motorkars.

The banquet was capped off with a champagne toast to Motorkars company founder James R. Young for whose efforts and sacrifice made the company what it is today.
